Spanish miner Juan Carlos de la Cruz died after catching a fire in a coal farm in southern California, according to authorities.

A fire broke out around 4 p.m.

Sunday in the town of San Pedro, about 15 miles southeast of Los Angeles, according the California Fire Marshal’s Office.

The fire was contained and no injuries were reported.

Officials say the miner, 50, was working at the mine when the fire started.

His body was taken to a hospital.
