AUSTIN, Texas— A new coal house in Austin, Texas, is being built in preparation for the arrival of more than 2,200 new residential units.
The facility, which will be built by the Austin American-Statesman Group, will be the first new construction project in the state since 2015, when the city and state were hit with a severe wildfire.
“We’re very excited about the new construction in Austin,” Austin Mayor Steve Adler told the Austin Chronicle.
“Austin is in a really good place for our city.
We’re in the midst of a renaissance.”
Construction on the Austin building, the first of its kind in the country, will start this fall.
The project is expected to create 1,400 new jobs.
The Austin American statesman group plans to hire about 50 construction workers, with more to come.
The news was announced Thursday, April 23.
